Solar installation in Maó
We work with three broad types of property here, and each needs a different approach:
- The old town above the harbour: traditional town houses with tiled roofs and roof terraces, many in protected surroundings.
- Harbour-front homes and apartments towards Es Castell: exposed to wind and salt air.
- Houses and small fincas on the outskirts: more roof space and room for a battery, pool or pump loads.
Panels, batteries and backup in Maó
In a house lived in all year, panels cut daytime use in every season. A battery makes sense with spare generation for the evening. Menorca's Tramuntana wind and the harbour's salt spray affect fixings and where the inverter goes, so we design for both.
Council notice and registration in Maó
On urban land in the Balearic Islands, rooftop solar normally needs only a comunicación previa (prior notification) to the council under Ley 12/2017. We prepare and submit it. Where your property falls outside that route, we tell you at the survey and handle the alternative. In Maó we check:
- Protected surroundings: parts of the old town are protected; we check status with the Ajuntament de Maó.
- Rural land: small fincas on suelo rústico follow separate rules.
- Apartments: need the owners' community's agreement.
What our Maó quotation covers
Every quotation states the system size, expected monthly and annual generation, the named equipment, warranties, and who handles registration and surplus compensation (we do). For Maó it also covers:
- Wind-rated mounting for the Tramuntana
- Corrosion-resistant fixings and equipment positioned for salt air
- A low-profile layout on traditional roofs and terraces
To get started, send a year of bills, the exact location, a few roof photos and whether the property is lived in all year.
Solar in Maó: owners' questions
Does the Tramuntana wind rule out solar?
No. We specify mounting and fixings rated for it.
Can panels go on my roof terrace?
Often, while keeping it usable.
