Practical solar tool

Balearic solar project readiness checklist

Gather the evidence an installer needs before asking for a firm design or comparing quotations. A prepared enquiry is easier to assess and harder to oversell.

Property and ownership

Record the address, cadastral reference where available, property type and who controls the roof. For an apartment community, establish whether the proposal serves communal loads, participating homes or both.

Flag rural land, a historic centre, a protected building or uncertainty about the property record before equipment is ordered. These details can change the municipal route.

Electricity evidence

Collect twelve months of bills if possible, including the CUPS, tariff, contracted power and monthly consumption. Hourly or quarter-hourly data from Datadis or the distributor portal shows when solar can be used directly.

List loads that may change: cooling, pool filtration, heat pumps, electric vehicles, guest accommodation, pumps and business equipment. Separate normal consumption from power-cut essentials.

Roof, site and access

Photograph each usable roof plane, the meter, main switchboard, likely equipment position and cable route. Note shade, waterproofing concerns, salt exposure and access for scaffolding or lifting.

For a finca or remote property, record pumps, generators, outbuildings, communications coverage and any periods when nobody can attend a fault.

A comparable quotation

Require installed kWp, exact equipment models, predicted generation, consumption assumptions, usable battery capacity, backup output and live circuits. Ask for access, protection work, monitoring, registration, warranties, exclusions and tax to be stated.

Keep grants separate until current eligibility is confirmed. The supplier should identify the authorised installer of record and who is responsible for survey, contract, installation and aftercare.

Questions owners ask

Before the survey.

Do I need twelve months of bills?+

Twelve months is preferable because Balearic properties can be highly seasonal. If less is available, state the period covered and what changed.

Is a roof photograph enough for a quotation?+

It supports an initial screen, but a firm design normally needs a site survey, electrical checks and confirmation of roof condition and access.

What should I send first?+

Start with the island, nearest town, property type, occupancy, recent bills, project goal and clear roof and switchboard photographs.
